Christophe Galtier’s relationship with Julien Fournier at point of no return

Posted on July 10, 2023

As reported by L’Équipe, the relationship between OGC Nice coach Christophe Galtier and sporting director Julien Fournier has completely broken down after Fournier called out Galtier for his performance as coach during his first season with the club.

In a recent interview with the sports daily, Fournier described Galtier’s criticism of the club’s lack of winter signings as “giving yourself an excuse. This team, as it is, could have had better results – with more attacking momentum and sometimes more courage.” While also suggesting that “there’s been a lot of negativity around the team. Christophe was extremely successful in Lille but, as happens to some players too, he performed less well for us.”

Galtier’s advisers, however, say that the coach is relaxed about the situation despite his position at the club being in flux with an ongoing audit by owners INEOS over the management structure and PSG potentially interested in signing him as their coach. One way or another, his future is expected to lie elsewhere. Galtier, who is aware of this, spoke with INEOS sporting director, and former British Olympic cycling coach, Dave Brailsford before leaving for his holiday recently.

Exchanges between Galtier’s entourage and PSG are regular but Nice have received no contact from Paris over Galtier as yet with Paris’ owners still pursuing Zinedine Zidane over the soon-to-be vacated coaching position after current coach Mauricio Pochettino was informed of his sacking last week.
