Paris Saint-Germain have this morning confirmed the departure of Mauricio Pochettino after a year and a half in charge, the Argentine ending his contract with the club one season early.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager arrived midway through the 2020/21 season, and despite a dramatic Champions League exit to Real Madrid earlier this year he did end his spell in France on a high as PSG wrapped up the Ligue 1 title.
The writing had been on the wall since the end of the season for Pochettino, who was set to be dismissed amid a wholesale change in the club’s upper management in the wake of Kylian Mbappé’s extension and a change in direction for the club’s project.
Discussions over his and his coaching staff’s contract termination had dragged on but an agreement was reached for an overall compensation package worth between €15m and €20m. Former Nice and Lille manager Christophe Galtier will now be unveiled this afternoon as his replacement.
