Rennes have this afternoon announced that young midfielder Désiré Doué has renewed his contract, adding an extra seaon to commit his future to the Brittany side until 2025.
The aptly-named 17-year-old made his debut on the opening day of the campaign, in a defeat to Lorient, and has established himself as a regular fixture in Bruno Génésio’s set-up.
In his 15 appearances for the senior team so far, Doué already has three goals, including one in the Europa League in a win over Dynamo Kyiv, while the others have come against Brest and Nantes.
He signed his first professional contract back in April of this year, when he was a part of Rennes’ Gambardella [youth cup] team, and with Mathys Tel having left for Bayern Munich over the summer the club was intent on keeping Doué for a longer spell. As reported by L’Équipe, the midfielder was being targeted by a number of big European clubs before deciding to stay on with his formative team.
