PSG boss Christophe Galtier asks for “wake-up call” following Rennes loss

Posted on February 19, 2023

PSG lost their second game of the Ligue 1 season as they fell against a tactically on-point Stade Rennais side. Rennes’ skipper, right-back Hamari Traoré, scored the sole goal of the game on the hour mark. PSG have now conceded back-to-back away losses, as the French leaders already stumbled at second-placed Lens at the turn of the year.

Paris struggled and coach Christophe Galtier was left unimpressed, as L’Equipe report. “We need to find our game back. We knew this would be a difficult game, and it was. We had the ball, but we failed to threaten them. Rennes defended with too much ease.“

Since the World Cup ended, PSG failed to put on a convincing display, as star players struggle to find their groove back. Neymar failed to make an impact and Lionel Messi could not influence the game in any way. PSG’s best performers were Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and unfazed 16-year-old midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery. “I’m not worried, but we need a wake-up call. The World Cup is over. We’ve been scattered for eight weeks, so we have to retrieve some cohesiveness and pace.“

PSG boss Christophe Galtier must hurry to rediscover the swagger that had defined Les Parisiens’ start of the season. The season-defining Champions League round of 16 against Bayern Munich is fast approaching and, more worryingly, Lens and Marseille are now just a whisker away from Ligue 1’s leaders: “This is a tight league, but I’m not used to watch the standings. I’m focusing on performances, and I have work to do.”
