Sportsmanship is too broad \u2014 and too important \u2014 of an art form to describe in a small quote. But\u00a0some of the greatest athletes who have ever lived have summed it up like this:<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve got to be able to lose in grace and win in grace.\u201d <\/em>\u2014 Michael Jordan<\/p>\n \u201cThe moment of victory is much too short to live for that and nothing else.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Martina Navratilova<\/p>\n \u201cSportsmanship is making sure you have respect for the guy you\u2019re playing across from.\u201d <\/em>\u2014 Warren Moon<\/p>\n A new video from Minnesota, which has since gone viral, shows a young man who appears to have perfected the highest art of sportsmanship at a young age.<\/p>\n Ty Koehn, a pitcher for Mounds View High School\u00a0in Minnesota, was on the mound for the final out in a sectional championship game. Up to bat was his close friend, Jack Kocon, of Totino-Grace High School.<\/p>\n Koehn struck out his friend to end the game, sending his team to the state championships.<\/p>\n But instead of celebrating with his teammates on the mound, he made a beeline to his buddy to console\u00a0him in his defeat.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s\u00a0another angle.<\/p>\n For Koehn, it\u2019s just what friends do. \u201cWe are very close friends,\u201d he told Bring Me the News. \u201cI knew him from all the way back when we were 13. We were on the same little league team. It was tough when we went to separate schools but we kept in touch.\u201d<\/p>\n Koehn\u2019s coach, Mark Downey, wasn\u2019t surprised by the teenager\u2019s behavior.<\/p>\n \u201cTy\u2019s actions the other night do not surprise me and are reflective of what I might expect from any one of the players on the team,\u201d\u00a0Downey said to Bring Me the News. \u201cAll really great kids, just a joy to be around on a daily basis.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Koehn and the Mound\u00a0View Mustangs move on to play the No. 2 seed Stillwater in the state Class 4A quarterfinals on Thursday, June 14.<\/p>\n \u201cI knew the game was going to keep going or it was going to end right there,\u201d Koehn added. \u201cI knew I had to say something. Our friendship is more important than just the silly outcome of a game.
