She gained national attention at the age of nine\u00a0after being the first reporter on the scene at a murder in her neighborhood\u00a0and beating her local paper to the scoop.<\/p>\n<p>Lysiak, the youngest member of the National Society of Professional Journalists, is once again making headlines for standing up for her First Amendment rights after being threatened\u00a0by an Arizona town marshal.<\/p>\n<p>Lysiak was chasing down a tip\u00a0near the Mexico-Arizona border when she was approached by Marshal Joseph Patterson who was driving an official vehicle. \u201cI don\u2019t want to hear about any of that freedom of the press stuff,\u201d Patterson said, according to Orange Street News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m going to have you arrested and thrown in juvey,\u201d the Marshal continued. \u201cI can have you arrested, do you understand?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Patterson asked for her identification and she provided her name and phone number, adding that\u00a0she is\u00a0a reporter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to hear about any of that freedom of the press stuff,\u201d Patterson told her.<\/p>\n<p>Lysiak then turned on her video camera and asked him to confirm that he threatened to arrest her and explain why. \u201cYou stopped me earlier and you said that I can be thrown in juvie. What exactly am I doing that&#8217;s illegal?\u201d Hilde asked Patterson.<\/p>\n<p>Patterson then lied to Lysiak\u00a0saying it was against the law to post\u00a0footage from the incident online.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can tape me, OK. But what I\u2019m going to tell you is if you put my face on the internet, it\u2019s against the law in Arizona, OK?\u201d he said. \u201cSo I\u2019m not giving you permission to use my picture or my face on the internet. Do you understand all that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patterson then told her not to follow the Marshals because they are entering an area with mountain lions. However, the officer didn\u2019t offer similar warnings to others people in the area. \u201cYeah, how is that illegal?\u201d Lysiak\u00a0asked. \u201cI understand that you\u2019re concerned about the safety, but what exactly am I doing?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Patterson then accused Lysiak\u00a0of lying to him, by saying she was going to her friend\u2019s house.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI gave you a lawful order,\u201d Patterson said. \u201cYou can lie to your mother, you can lie to your father, you can lie to your priest, but you can\u2019t lie to a law-enforcement officer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Hilde\u2019s video went viral, the city of Patagonia, Arizona issued a statement about the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe town of Patagonia has received many comments concerning Marshall Patterson\u2019s interaction with a young reporter from the Orange Street News,\u201d it says. \u201cThe matter has been carefully reviewed and we have taken action we believe to be appropriate for the situation.
