Less than a week after winning Beijing International Triathlon \u00a0Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee has won the Aquathlon World Championships in Cozumel,\u00a0Mexico with\u00a0Richard Varga\u00a0taking second and Tommy Zaferes third.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The flat and fast course comprises of a 2.5km opening run, 1km swim and then a second 2.5km run. The run course took place around the FONATUR Marina, with the one-lap swim in the crystal clear waters of the Marina Sea.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Swift on their feet, Brownlee and Crisanto\u00a0Grajales from Mexico ditched the competition on the first run lap, getting to the crystal clear waters of Cozumel first. However despite having a 15-second deficit, Varga, who has led out of the water at every World Triathlon Series race this year, and Zaferes caught and passed both Brownlee and Grajales.<\/p>\n
Brownlee managed to stay with them to head out for the second run together and it wasn\u2019t long before he took the lead and stayed there, with Varga crossing the finish line next, while Zaferes won bronze.<\/p>\n
\u201cDefinitely my first ever run, swim, run,\u201d Brownlee said. \u201cI really enjoyed it, it was hard, really hard. It\u2019s so hot, the running was tough. The other guys went off really hard and I thought \u2018I better go with them\u2019. It was weird, it\u2019s not like I was tired, but I felt like I was in oxygen depth the first kilometre after the swim.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the men\u2019s U23 race GB\u2019s Richard Allen\u00a0took silver behind\u00a0Turkey\u2019s\u00a0Jonas Schomburg\u00a0ahead of\u00a0Leong Tim Law\u00a0(HKG) who took bronze.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
