The Austrian defender said he learned a lot during the Spaniard’s three seasons in charge of Bayern Munich <\/p>\n
Bayern Munich\u00a0left-back David Alaba has hailed his former manager Pep Guardiola, saying he introduced a new way of playing to the world.<\/p>\n
Guardiola managed Alaba at\u00a0Bayern between 2013 and 2016, winning the Bundesliga title in all three campaigns he was in charge.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Prior to his time in Germany, Guardiola presided over a wildly successful Barcelona side that won more than a dozen trophies in four years.<\/p>\n

I knew that I could make a lot of decisions [on the pitch] and I guess he\u2019s one of the best coaches in the world, if not the best.”<\/p>\n “He brought a new style of football \u2013 not only to our team, but to the world. We improved. We learned a lot about football and the way we played.<\/p>\n “When we won the championship …\u00a0the style of football that we played was great.”<\/p>\n Guardiola\u00a0has gone on to Manchester City, where he sealed a runaway Premier League title last season.<\/p>\n Despite continuing domestic silverware, the\u00a0Spaniard hasn’t achieved Champions League success since his time at Barcelona.\u00a0<\/p>\n Alaba, though, believes that City could have got more out of a surprising Champions League quarter-final exit to Liverpool last season.<\/p>\n “They won the championship in England in a really good way,” the 26-year-old said.\u00a0<\/p>\n “He\u2019s doing a great job. He was unlucky in that Champions League [quarter]-final against Liverpool.”<\/p>\n Alaba was speaking ahead of Bayern Munich’s Audi Summer Tour of the USA.
