{"id":6218,"date":"2020-09-05T16:23:22","date_gmt":"2020-09-05T16:23:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportsnewsforyou.com\/?p=6218"},"modified":"2020-09-05T16:23:22","modified_gmt":"2020-09-05T16:23:22","slug":"science-advocacy-organization-offers-100000-to-host-climate-change-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/googmn.com\/?p=6218","title":{"rendered":"Science advocacy organization offers $100,000 to host climate change debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A science advocacy group is putting $100,000 toward hosting a Democratic presidential primary debate focused on climate change after the Democratic National Committee (DNC) said it wouldn&#8217;t hold the issue-specific forum.<\/p>\n<p>314 Action, an organization that works to elect scientists, created an online petition\u00a0that asks\u00a0for partner organizations to join in on hosting a climate change-specific debate in the fall and calls on candidates to commit to participating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us and for the country, it\u2019s like, this is a debate that\u2019s worth having and the DNC should allow for this debate to happen,\u201d 314 Action executive director Josh Morrow told The Hill.\u00a0ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p>The group\u00a0believes one or two questions about such a pressing issue asked to each candidate during a debate is not enough.<\/p>\n<p>314 Action\u2019s plan follows calls from several 2020 candidates asking for a climate change debate \u2014 first requested by Washington Gov. While acknowledging the urgent threat climate change poses, Perez said he\u2019s received more than 50 requests for debates focused on other issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Click Here: <a href='https:\/\/www.jerseytienda.com\/seleccion-de-rugby-de-argentina.html' title='los jaguares argentina'>los jaguares argentina<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we change our guidelines at the request of one candidate who has made climate change their campaign\u2019s signature issue, how do we say no to the numerous other requests we\u2019ve had?\u201d Perez said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That argument isn\u2019t strong enough, Morrow said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey wrote the rules, they can rewrite the rules,\u201d Morrow said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Hill has reached out to the DNC for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Xochitl Hinojosa, a DNC spokeswoman, told The Hill in an email, \u201cWe have said from the beginning of this debate process that we welcome forums on issues like climate change and believe that candidates should take advantage of these platforms.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 2017, Tom Perez started meeting with potential media partners and made clear that climate change must be a topic not only at one debate, but multiple debates,&#8221;\u00a0Hinojosa continued. &#8220;Climate change is a threat to our nation and our world, and I\u2019m proud that every person on that debate stage will make it a priority as president, while Republicans continue to deny the impacts of climate change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>314 Action has not yet heard from any of the candidates, but Morrow said he anticipates he will.<\/p>\n<p>The first Democratic debates will be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Miami.
