The phrase then entered politics when Democratic presidential candidate Walter Mondale used the line against Sen. Gary Hart during the 1984 Democratic primary while criticizing his policies.<\/p>\n<p>ADVERTISEMENT<\/p>\n<p> Sanford announced earlier this month that he would be challenging Trump in the 2020 GOP primary. He has said his campaign is about improving the ideas of the Republican Party.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s a robust debate going on on the Democratic side about what it means to be a Democrat.
