{"id":5436,"date":"2020-07-05T18:25:23","date_gmt":"2020-07-05T18:25:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportsnewsforyou.com\/?p=5436"},"modified":"2020-07-05T18:25:23","modified_gmt":"2020-07-05T18:25:23","slug":"republicans-and-business-bodies-criticise-trumps-mexico-tariff-amid-fears-of-us-price-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/googmn.com\/?p=5436","title":{"rendered":"Republicans and business bodies criticise Trump&#8217;s Mexico tariff amid fears of US price rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Republicans and business bodies criticised Donald Trump\u2019s proposed 5 per cent tariff on Mexican imports on Friday amid fears it could force up the price of cars and food for Americans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Click Here: <a href='https:\/\/www.rwcstore.com\/chiefs.html' title='Cheap Chiefs Rugby Jersey 2019'>Cheap Chiefs Rugby Jersey 2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The US president said the tariff will be levied on all goods imported from Mexico on June 10 unless the country\u2019s leaders lower the number of illegal migrants crossing into America.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He warned that the tariff would ramp up every month, eventually reaching 25 per cent by October unless illegal migrant crossings were \u201cdramatically reduced\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMexico cannot allow hundreds of thousands of people to pour over its land and into our country &#8211; violating the sovereign territory of the United States,\u201d Mr Trump said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf Mexico does not take decisive measures, it will come at a significant price.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>America imported almost $350 billion worth of goods from Mexico last year, including $93 billion worth of cars and $26 billion of agriculture products.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure>\n<noscript><\/noscript><figcaption>\nA US border patrol agent patrols the US border with Mexico in Nogales, ArizonaCredit:<br \/>\nREUTERS\/Lucy Nicholson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The move triggered criticism because it will be American importers who pay the tariff and the cost could be passed on to US consumers in the form of higher prices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Chuck Grassley, the Republican joint chairman of the Senate Finance Chairman, warned the move was a \u201cmisuse of presidential tariff authority\u201d, saying trade and border security were \u201cseparate issues\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr Trump plans to use powers granted to him through the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to implement the tariff, effectively bypassing Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Neil Bradley, the executive vice president at the US Chamber of Commerce, called imposing tariffs \u201cexactly the wrong move\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThese tariffs will be paid by American families and businesses without doing a thing to solve the very real problems at the border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Trump tweeted on Friday:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Mexico has taken advantage of the United States for decades.
