{"id":5188,"date":"2020-06-09T11:31:32","date_gmt":"2020-06-09T11:31:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportsnewsforyou.com\/?p=5188"},"modified":"2020-06-09T11:31:32","modified_gmt":"2020-06-09T11:31:32","slug":"ri-based-new-england-distance-projects-1st-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/googmn.com\/?p=5188","title":{"rendered":"RI-Based New England Distance Project&#8217;s 1st Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align:center\"><\/div>\n<p>                                                October Newsletter<\/p>\n<p>                                                Dear Shareholders &#038; Friends of NE Distance,<br \/>\n                                                \u00a0<br \/>\n                                                This is the kick-off installment newsletter of the NE Distance project,<br \/>\n                                                your community-based distance running project.\u00a0 September was an<br \/>\n                                                incredible month.\u00a0 NE Distance officially launched in earnest with the<br \/>\n                                                arrival of our first athlete, David Goodman.\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>                                                <strong>David Goodman<\/strong><br \/>\n                                                \u00a0<br \/>\n                                                David arrived in Woonsocket, RI after driving 3400 miles in a borrowed van on Saturday, September 1st.\u00a0<br \/>\n                                                By Tuesday he was already moved into his apartment and working with the<br \/>\n                                                youth of Woonsocket.\u00a0 By his third week with us, he was already up to<br \/>\n                                                running 100 miles per week and has discovered great running routes such<br \/>\n                                                as the unpaved Southern New England Trunkline Trail (SNETT), Lincoln<br \/>\n                                                Woods, the Blackstone River Path and the East Bay Bikepath.<\/p>\n<p>                                                When he is not training, David is working part-time with NeighborWorks<br \/>\n                                                Blackstone River Valley&#8217;s after-school program YouthRAP.\u00a0 On his first<br \/>\n                                                day, he had elementary school kids climbing him as if he were a tree.<br \/>\n                                                \u00a0<br \/>\n                                                David is collaborating on his training plan with Coach Bob Rothenberg<br \/>\n                                                who is monitoring weekly speed workouts either in Lincoln Woods or on<br \/>\n                                                the Brown Stadium track.\u00a0 He&#8217;s fitting in well in Rhode Island and has<br \/>\n                                                already met Senator Whitehouse, Rep. Main Street Providence or on<br \/>\n                                                our web site: www.nedistance.org\/Tshirt.html<br \/>\n                                                \u00a0<br \/>\n                                                \u00a0<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\n                                                <strong>Looking Forward to October<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\n                                                \u00a0<br \/>\n                                                Look for David Goodman&#8217;s Half Marathon debut at the ING Hartford Half Marathon on Saturday October 13th.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\n                                                \u00a0<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\n                                                NE Distance will be partnering with the Thundermist Health Center on<br \/>\n                                                their ThunderKids Wellness Program.\u00a0 The Program targets children ages<br \/>\n                                                ten through thirteen years of age through an intensive, therapeutic,<br \/>\n                                                multi-specialty intervention. The ThunderKids Wellness Program has<br \/>\n                                                targeted 50 children among Thundermist patients for membership for the<br \/>\n                                                program that runs the entirety of the school year. Each of the patients<br \/>\n                                                fell above the 85% BMI for age at a recent Thundermist physical exam.<br \/>\n                                                For these 50 children, the program offers free gym membership to the<br \/>\n                                                YMCA.
