Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp scolded fans ahead of the Reds’ Champions League last-16 clash with Atletico Madrid after a set of supporters reached out for high-fives despite ongoing coronavirus concerns.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Wednesday’s match at Anfield was played in the midst of a global outbreak with a number of football matches and sporting events impacted.<\/p>\n
The decision was made earlier this week that Paris Saint-Germain’s clash with Borussia Dortmund, the other match on Wednesday’s schedule, would be played behind closed doors.<\/p>\n \n More teams<\/p>\n <\/i><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Arsenal’s visit to\u00a0Manchester City, meanwhile, was postponed due to coronavirus fears\u00a0following the Gunners’ meeting with Olympiacos, which saw\u00a0club staff come into contact with\u00a0the Greek side’s owner,\u00a0Evangelos\u00a0Marinakis,\u00a0who has been diagnosed with the illness.<\/p>\n And Klopp was not\u00a0thrilled with supporters near the Anfield tunnel attempting to\u00a0reach\u00a0out for high-fives ahead of the match.<\/p>\n “Put your hands away,” Klopp clearly says\u00a0as he walked out of the tunnel moments before kick-off.<\/p>\n It’s unclear exactly what the German said thereafter, with one broadcaster suggesting he responded “f*cking idiots” to the supporters.<\/p>\n Klopp has been quite vocal about the outbreak in recent weeks,\u00a0although the Liverpool boss says questions about coronavirus should be saved for medical professionals, not football managers.<\/p>\n The manager has stated that\u00a0“some things are more important than football” and that he and Liverpool will respect whatever decisions are made by\u00a0government officials when it comes to dealing with the spread of the illness.<\/p>\n A number of Champions League matches have been impacted by the coronavirus, with Atalanta’s win over Valencia played behind closed doors on Tuesday.<\/p>\n Supporters have also been banned from other\u00a0Champions League matches including Barcelona\u00a0vs\u00a0Napoli\u00a0and Bayern Munich vs Chelsea, while LASK will be forced to close their gates against Manchester United on Thursday in the Europa League.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, in other Europa League matches, Roma’s clash with Sevilla and Inter’s meeting with Getafe have been postponed .<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
