Shkodran Mustafi needs to \u201chave a word with himself and pipe down a little bit\u201d, says Lee Dixon, with the Arsenal defender advised to focus more on his performances than \u201chair and sunglasses\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The Germany international is considered to have enjoyed a welcome upturn in form since Mikel Arteta inherited the managerial reins at Emirates Stadium.<\/p>\n

Having become a scapegoat for supporter angst at times, the 27-year-old appears to be enjoying his football again.<\/p>\n

A positive attitude on the field has been reflected off it in a change of appearances for Mustafi, but Gunners great Dixon would prefer to see the World Cup winner avoid putting himself in the spotlight.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Mustafi] seriously needs to have a word with himself and pipe down a little bit,\u201d Dixon told the Handbrake Off podcast.<\/p>\n

Mustafi is accustomed to being centre of attention in north London, not always for the right reasons, and Dixon says criticism comes with the territory of playing for a global heavyweight.<\/p>\n

The former Gunners full-back added: \u201cI\u2019m pleased that he\u2019s bucked up and he\u2019s playing well, but you can\u2019t say to the crowd \u2018When he gets it, don\u2019t say anything, don\u2019t feel nervous\u2019. The crowd feel what they feel.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re a professional footballer playing at the top of your game for\u00a0Arsenal. If it really bothers you and you\u2019re appealing to the crowd saying \u2018Please let me play my game and see how good I am\u2019, that\u2019s fine.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut you can\u2019t be sheltered from that, that\u2019s part of being a footballer. If you can\u2019t handle it and it gets to you, no disrespect, go and play lower down the leagues.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cGo and play for another team where there\u2019s only 5,000 people there and they\u2019re not going to get on your back. This is Arsenal, we\u2019re here to do one thing and that\u2019s win trophies.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the advice that he would offer Mustafi, Dixon said: \u201cMy advice to him would be put your hair back how it was, take your sunglasses off, go and hide behind your captain and churn out 25 performances.\u201d<\/p>\n
