The German giants agreed to offload one striker to China during the winter transfer window and believe they still have enough attacking options <\/p>\n

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is not concerned by the prospect of Robert Lewandowski being Bayern Munich’s only recognised out-and-out striker for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n

Bayern sanctioned the sale of Sandro Wagner on Wednesday, just a year on\u00a0from his arrival from Hoffenheim, after the Germany international received a lucrative offer from Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed,\u00a0Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic stated: “Sandro Wagner came up to us and asked for a release from his contract.\u00a0He has a very attractive offer from China and we have met his request.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We expressly thank Sandro for spending time with FC Bayern and wish him all the best and much success for his future in China.”<\/p>\n

With Bayern trailing leaders Borussia Dortmund by six points in the Bundesliga table, and still competing in the DFB-Pokal and Champions League, the decision to sell without drafting in a replacement came as a surprise to some.<\/p>\n

But Bayern chairman Rummenigge is confident the likes of Thomas Muller or Serge Gnabry could fill the void should something happen to Lewandowski.<\/p>\n

“Sandro asked [to leave] because he had an offer from China with an incredibly high salary,”\u00a0Rummenigge\u00a0told reporters.<\/p>\n

“We discussed that with the coach and Niko Kovac thought that with Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry, in case of doubt, we have alternatives.<\/p>\n

“But Robert Lewandowski has never been injured at Bayern Munich since 2014.”<\/p>\n

Rummenigge also accepted Bayern face a tough task to hunt down a Dortmund side who have lost just once in the league this season.<\/p>\n

“Borussia Dortmund are playing a very good and very stable season,” he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n
