Wesley Hoedt has left Southampton to join Celta Vigo on a loan deal until the end of the season.<\/p>\n
Netherlands international Hoedt has not featured for Saints under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, with his most recent appearance coming in a 3-2 defeat by Fulham that became Mark Hughes’ penultimate match in charge.<\/p>\n
The deal taking the 24-year-old to Spain includes an option for Celta to make the move permanent in the summer.<\/p>\n
A statement on Southampton’s website read: “Hoedt’s move will allow him to gain additional playing time between now and the end of the season, while also further helping Hasenhuttl to achieve his aim of trimming the first-team squad this month.<\/p>\n
“The club would like to wish Wesley good luck for the rest of the season.”<\/p>\n
Hoedt, who joined Southampton on a five-year contract from Lazio for \u00a315million in the summer of 2017, follows Steven Davis and Manolo Gabbiadini in leaving St Mary’s this month.<\/p>\n
He has made 45 appearances for the south coast club in all competitions, with his only goal coming in last season’s FA Cup defeat of West Brom.<\/p>\n
Hoedt, who won the most recent of his six international caps against Bulgaria in September 2017, joins fellow Saints loanee Sofiane Boufal at Celta.<\/p>\n
