Dean Saunders believes Tottenham dropped a massive clanger by not signing Gonzalo Higuain in the summer, as the striker prepares to join London rivals Chelsea.<\/p>\n
Higuain is reportedly close to signing for Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season, as they look to ship out misfiring Alvaro Morata and improve their front line.<\/p>\n
The Argentine was linked with a move to Spurs in the summer transfer window, but the Premier League side ended up not signing any new players \u2013 which has badly backfired now that Harry Kane is out until March with an ankle injury.<\/p>\n
And Saunders believes Spurs missed a big opportunity to sign some world-class players over the summer, saying Higuain may have chosen to join them if they loosened their purse strings.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Thursday\u2019s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former Wales striker said: \u201cWhat a signing that is for Chelsea.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s exactly what Chelsea need, a player of that ilk. He\u2019s a class act, a great finisher and gets goals everywhere he\u2019s been.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut what are Spurs going to do now Harry Kane is injured?<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve finished in the Champions League twice on the bounce, they\u2019ve got a great young manager and a great squad.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey had an advantage over Chelsea in the summer because Chelsea weren\u2019t in the Champions League and Spurs were.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf Higuain had the option in the summer which club to go to, he maybe would have taken less wages and gone to Spurs because they were in the Champions League.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s where Spurs had the advantage, and they never capitalised on it.<\/p>\n
