The tiny safety pin is making a huge impact in Great Britain\u2014and it has nothing\u00a0to do with punk rock.<\/p>\n

Following last week\u2019s stunning Brexit vote, the United Kingdom saw a staggering\u00a057 percent\u00a0increase in reported incidents of xenophobic abuse, according to the National Police Chiefs\u2019 Council. Some victims even took to social media to share photos of the alleged verbal and physical abuse they have suffered since the vote.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

David Cameron, Great Britain’s outgoing Prime Minister, said in a statement:<\/p>\n

Oddly enough, it is an American who came up with the small\u00a0but mighty gesture for those looking to support immigrants in the U.K.\u00a0As Mashable reports, a Twitter user named Allison proposed the simple idea of wearing a safety pin to show solidarity for immigrants.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The idea quickly took off with hundreds of social media users sharing\u00a0their new flair\u00a0with the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
