Jermain Defoe\u00a0offered a brilliant three-word response on Twitter after his\u00a0Rangers\u00a0debut was postponed due to the pitch being frozen.<\/p>\n
The 36-year-old was due to appear for the Gers in their fourth round Scottish Cup tie against Cowdenbeath before the match was called off.<\/p>\n
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard also revealed his other January recruit, Southampton midfielder Steven Davis, was set to feature in the match.<\/p>\n
But after the club announced the fixture had been rescheduled for January 30, the veteran striker couldn’t resist the urge to laugh about the state of affairs.<\/p>\n
“Welcome to Scotland”, he tweeted alongside a laughing emoji.<\/p>\n
Central Park, where Defoe was due to appear, also doubles as a stock-car racing venue and\u00a0Cowdenbeath director Tom Ewing\u00a0claimed the surface was harder last summer\u00a0than it was tonight.<\/p>\n
He said: “We played a couple of games here in the Betfred Cup, it was a long dry summer and I would absolutely say the pitch was harder then than it is now.<\/p>\n
“It’s not hard now, the referee feels that that’s a problem. It was a local referee that was called out and in our view it was a precaution.<\/p>\n
“There’s a little bit of area up by the penalty box which is a bit devoid of grass. It’s a very small area and the groundsman felt that he could’ve forked it up and softened it up.<\/p>\n
“But the referee’s made his decision and we’ve got to abide by that. But we’re hugely disappointed. I think most of the people looking at the pitch are saying they’ve seen a lot worse.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
