Liberal or conservative, pro-Trump or Antifa, Lea Thau is here to burst your bubble.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0The Peabody award-winning producer and storyteller, who is openly critical of Trump,\u00a0has just wrapped up months of\u00a0road tripping with his supporters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m exhausted from having these conversations,\u201d\u00a0Thau says\u00a0at the end the first episode Lea in Trumpland\u201d\u00a0a special three-part\u00a0miniseries of \u201c<\/span>Strangers,\u201d her popular\u00a0radio series and podcast, which debuted April 29.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The journey of exploring Trump\u2019s America was a departure for Thau and her show, which typically showcases\u00a0extraordinary stories of humanity. Each episode, as described on\u00a0its page, is an empathy shot in your arm, \u201cfeaturing true stories about the people we meet, the connections we make, the heartbreaks we suffer, the kindnesses we encounter, and those frightful moments when we discover that we\u00a0aren\u2019t even who we thought we were.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

But after the election, Thau wanted to take the show and \u201cexplore the beauty and limits of human connection,\u201d she tells GOOD. So, just one day after the election,\u00a0she took to Facebook and shared with her listeners the deep pain and sorrow that she felt over the results. To her surprise, she had more than a few conservatives and Trump voters as listeners who were willing to share their own feelings as well. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re in your own little liberal cocoon, you think that they are hateful people and that they don’t care one bit that we hate them, because they hate us too, and I was surprised that there were so many of them who were like, \u2018I don\u2019t hate my liberal friends. Why can\u2019t we all just get along,\u2019\u201d Thau says. <\/span><\/p>\n

So Thau\u2019s journey with Trump supporters began. In the series, Thau not only sleeps over at a Trump supporter\u2019s home, but she also went road tripping, smoked weed, and drank a little with them. \u201cI tried to move the conversations to a different place,\u201d Thau says.<\/span><\/p>\n

The stories aren\u2019t about finding common ground, or even agreeing to disagree. They are simply about opening up and conversing about Trump, about life, really about anything. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy sole objective is to tell their story from their subjective point of view as honestly and beautifully as I can,\u201d Thau explains. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

She isn\u2019t quite sure just how the series will end.\u00a0\u201cThere are things that I don\u2019t have answers for either,\u201d she says. But without question it\u2019s worth a listen\u2014if not for the lesson in caring for one another, but at least for the entertainment value alone. And like America, the series could go on forever.\u00a0\u201cWe don\u2019t know how it\u2019s going to end,\u201d she says,\u00a0\u201cthere is no ending.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
