Speaking at the Simmons Leadership Conference in Boston on Thursday, April 5, former first lady Michelle Obama used a parenting metaphor to compare her husband\u2019s time in the oval office to Donald Trump\u2019s.<\/p>\n
She said that when Barack Obama was in the White House it \u201cwas like having the \u2018good parent\u2019 at home. The responsible parent, the one who told you to eat your carrots and go to bed on time,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd now we have the other parent,\u201d Obama added. \u201cWe thought it\u2019d feel fun, maybe it feels fun for now because we can eat candy all day and stay up late and not follow the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n
During the nearly 90-minute conversation she also gave her opinion on Hillary Clinton. She was the \u201cthe best-qualified candidate,\u201d Obama said. \u201cShe wasn\u2019t perfect, but she was way more perfect than many of the alternatives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although Michelle Obama left the White House with very high favorability ratings, she has no interest in\u00a0running for president. \u201cThe reason why I don\u2019t\u00a0want to run for president \u2014 I can\u2019t speak for Oprah, but my sense is that first of all, you have to want the job,\u201d Obama said at the forum.<\/p>\n
She also admitted that she has never had the \u201cpassion for politics\u201d and she was merely being supportive of her husband. \u201cI just happened to be married to somebody who has the passion for politics, and he dragged me kicking and screaming into this arena,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
