{"id":10120,"date":"2022-04-03T23:16:39","date_gmt":"2022-04-03T23:16:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/googmn.com\/?p=10120"},"modified":"2022-04-03T23:16:39","modified_gmt":"2022-04-03T23:16:39","slug":"galway-still-manager-less-its-extremely-disappointing-when-the-league-is-starting-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/googmn.com\/?p=10120","title":{"rendered":"Galway still manager-less &#8211; &#8216;It&#8217;s extremely disappointing when the league is starting this weekend&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE GALWAY SENIOR ladies football team remain without an official manager, just a few days out from opening their Division 1 National League campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Although still out of the loop due to her club commitments with recent All-Ireland champions Kilkerrin-Clonberne, star Tribe defender Nicola Ward told<em> The42\u00a0<\/em>that the situation is \u201cvery disappointing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Gerry Fahy stepped down from the role two weeks ago after just one season in charge.<\/p>\n<p>A Galway LGFA statement, released through\u00a0Galway Bay FM, revealed that Fahy \u201ccited questions that were raised that he and his management team were unfortunately unable to resolve and in the interest of Galway ladies football, the management team stepped aside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Click Here: <a href='' title=''><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The process of appointing a new management team began thereafter, though no update was available when <em>The42<\/em> last contacted Galway county board.\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\u2018It really is a strange one\u2019 \u2013 Galway still on hunt for new manager two weeks out from league\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s understood that the squad continue to train as normal ahead of their 2022 Lidl Ladies National Football League opener against Donegal in Ballybofey on Saturday [throw-in 7.30pm, live on TG4], with some of the previous management team remaining in situ.<\/p>\n<p>Ward confirmed as much at yesterday\u2019s league launch in Newbridge.<\/p>\n<div   >\n<div >Advertisement<\/div>\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1365092406213-1'>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI suppose we weren\u2019t there when everything happened,\u201d she said. \u201cWe had been onto Gerry before club and during it, and he was very good to us to give us the time to focus on the club. We completely isolated ourselves to the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was obviously very disappointing to hear about the news. But\u00a0Maghnus Breathnach and Fionna Wynne and David Mannion are all still there, there\u2019s no new manager as such but they\u2019re the ones that are taking training and trying to manage it as best as they can.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously it\u2019s extremely disappointing when the league is starting this weekend, but that\u2019s the situation for now. Myself and the Kilkerrin-Clonberne girls don\u2019t really know [the ins and outs] either because [we&#8217;re out of the loop]. We\u2019re taking a few weeks off and once we get back in, we\u2019ll be fully committed to the cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I said, it is disappointing but they have to kind of move on and get ready for the matches because they are coming thick and fast. Hopefully come championship, there might be a better structure in place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Ward and her clubmates, which include sister Louise and Olivia and Siobh\u00e1n Divilly, take time to reset, the 2019 All-Star has not been in regular contact with her inter-county colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, she\u2019s unsure how they\u2019re feeling ahead of the Donegal clash.<\/p>\n<div   >\n<div >\n        SEE SPORT<br \/>DIFFERENTLY<\/p>\n<p>\n            Get closer to the stories that matter with exclusive analysis, insight and debate in The42 Membership.\n        <\/p>\n<p>            Become a Member<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve only been talking to a few of them wishing us luck and congratulating us,\u201d she explains. \u201cI want to isolate myself from Galway for the minute, just to take that time out, completely relax from it, recharge and go again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI suppose they just have to go out and play the game when it comes to it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That, they will, with an exciting 2022 ahead and motivation aplenty in all quarters after Meath\u2019s historic All-Ireland win and denial of Dublin\u2019s perfect five-in-a-row.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of teams aren\u2019t far off,\u201d Ward concludes. \u201cYou can\u2019t but take massive inspiration from Meath and what they did for ladies football.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think a lot of teams will be fairly close this year, and we\u2019ll see that in the next few weeks through the league in who\u2019s going to show their best side.
